Your idea for the event was good. The execution was terrible. Admit your mistakes and do not get into arguements with players. Ever heard of the expression "Customer is always right"? This applies here as much as every where else.
Now, this is good that you want to let people know what is going on. A nice way to start would be making a new thread, posting some information about what is being done and how far is the progress. Since we've heard a lot about the beginner tutorial and you are doing it, then how about start with that.

1. an event that needs some time to have teams registered, isnt a smart move as a fast event even if ur intent was good.
2. it's up to the community gm to tell us what's happening for the community in the fture and ALSO to tell the gm team what the community wants.
3. to bad the server isn't as big in numbers as it was at the start

Hello guys, everyday i talk to players who need my help, and everyday all i ever hear is negativity about things on DR. Do you think the way forward for our community is to be constantly negative?, do you think a new player that comes to this forum and reads all the negativity will download the client?.. Things take time, granted sometimes quite alot of time but things are getting done, so lets pull together and bring new players into the game and rebuild the gaming community this game once had.

If the players loses faith in the game, then whats the point??

is like a domino effect when something goes bad people start seing everything as bad, olso there is someting true, dr has some big flaws when it comes to game play, flaws that have being in the game for years and that most gms tend to ignore and of course on top of this you have that most of the persons here are old dr players that have being dealing for years with the "everything is ok" attitud and then suddenly game is dead witch make them quite pesismistic.

giving real feedback to ideas as well as giving us an idea what is the gm team doing is the first step to regain the trust years of bad administration have done to this comunity.
