Wait until you're 30+ mining to decide on drop rate because before then, you fail to extract ores a lot of the time. Also there's certain places that give more of each material. The higher level spots will give few copper. If you go to the low level spots, every other drop should be copper or quartz.

how can you tell if a place is a low lvl spot or a high lvl spot if you can only get cooper and quartz and you only extract something 1/30 of the time?

The higher the the "hp" of the mining spot, the lower the mine spot is. For example:
A mine with |___________| that much hp will be a low level spot. It will only drop quarts, iron, copper.

A mine with |___| hp will be a high level spot (usually a diamond spot).

That's assuming no one else has dug in that place before and lowered the full hp.

Also The first 2 mining quests should be switched around... instead of the first quwst beinf copper ore.. it should be quartz...
