Add your perception on how the GM team is doing

Postby Silencer » Thu Apr 08, 2010 11:29 am

I hope this stays constructive and doesn't turn into a flame war. I want people's input as to how they perceive the GMs right now.

GMSignPainter: The most active GM in engaging the community. Even though there were many things we disagreed with, I respected him for his candidness and engagement with the community. The biggest beef and perhaps the biggest beef I have with the entire GM team is that he acknowledged who he was in game and as a community member. I'm not saying GMs shouldn't play DR. I'm saying they should've kept their mouth shut as to who they are in game.

GMPsipress: Very active several months ago, pretty much AWOL after that. I don't even know what he does.

GMTempest: Never engages with the community. Saw one or two post from him. Don't know what he does.

GMNyx: Same as above.

Overall impression: I don't know what you guys are doing. We don't know you besides the few community members who know the GMs personally. That's a problem. We know you are busy. We know you have a life outside DR. But you should also know there has to be a balance between working on the server and engaging with the community. We have such a small community that every small thing becomes magnified. If the past GMs in past servers didn't realize this, I really hoped that this GM team realized it. Be a little engaged in the forums. I'm not asking you to post like grofire or arab. I'm asking you to be an active part of the community as GMs. Other MMORPGs already do this and they have a much bigger community. And yet we have such a small community and our very own GMs fail to do this. Then you go ahead in the totally opposite direction and engaged with the community on your player account. Unbelievable.

I don't know the rules you guys set to regulate yourselves. But as far as I can tell, they're almost non existent except for a few obvious ones like not abusing your position. I am grateful for your voluntary contribution to make this server happen and I am impressed with your ability to change the game for the better. But all that work is for naught if your actions cause the community to crumble. All that work is for naught if you lose our faith and trust. All that work is for naught when people quit left and right because of their perceived corruption and favoritism from the GM team towards selected players. Even someone as rational as me can't get rid of the feeling that ZT is tainted just for the fact that a GM is in that guild. Imagine everyone else who are less rational (ahem, grofire).

It may seem like I'm crying over spilled milk but I felt the need to add my thoughts into this matter. I would like to know how other people feel about the GM team and please be honest and respectful. Hopefully we can get them to think their work on the surface is just as important as their work behind the scenes.

GMs make the server because they love the game of DR. You can't expect someone to just up and give up what they love so that other people and enjoy it without them. They're not martyrs. At the same time that's the exact same reason why previous DR servers have all failed. Understand that GMs want to play the game and that's why the server is here. No one else is willing or capable of making it happen, so they do it. Perhaps if there was another DR server open, the GMs would merely be players and not GMs. Also understand that they're not robots. They can't work for DR 24/7. They like to relax and chill and the play the game. You can't ENJOY the game if all eyes are on you and players are whispering you on your off time. Imagine if your boss called you 24/7 non-stop even when you take a vacation. Secrecy is their asylum from the constant hounding of a never-satisfied DR community.

What I would like to see is the GMs being more active in game. It's nice they're semi-active on the forums. When I was new to DR, I got so excited to see Santa in town and to hear what he has to say and has planned for the server. I remember a few times when GMs would show up into town just to say "hi. how are you? How are you enjoying the game? Anyone have any questions/concerns/problems?" And just chill with us (EVERYONE) in town. Maybe summon some low monsters just to have fun. Kill everyone in town just for fun. Not everyone uses the forums. A lot of people don't even speak english but seeing a GM log into the game for more than checking on AFK players (or other negative things) reminds the players that GMs love the game and are there if players need them and not some Wizard of Oz running the server.

Gaz I think you're a much better person than that... Get on MSN -_- And no, I'm not crying. You know me better than that.

Did you even read my post? Did I ask them to not play the game? Did I ask them to work on the server 24/7? Please go back and read what I said before saying stuff that mischaracterizes my post.

Please tell them to open the item mall. I'll be more than willing to spend a few hundred to keep DR alive.

I read your post. You misunderstood mine. I mean if GMs made it public who they are in the game, players (not you) will be pestering them 24/7 and expecting them to work all the time because on a game server, the work never stops. If they keep it hidden, then rumors of corruption will spread. I'm saying in general, GMs should be allowed to play but if they play, those implications are cast on them and the server.

EDIT: sorry. my "you" was directed at the DR community, not at the OP.

Ah, gotcha. My bad. You were kinda siding with me and I went after you >.> And I think if GM's make an enough presence in game and on forums and keep their in game identities hidden, they would be striking the perfect balance. That's essentially what I believe in. GMs have every right to play the game and join the guilds they want, but they should keep their personal characters unknown and make periodic attempts to engage the community so that the community feels like they are doing their job.

Remember when LadyPhoenix was a GM. Remember she was leader of a guild in game and had another GM in her guild. Can you tell us more about these things? My memory is quite foggy. :W: :W:

I said you a Speach from movie..

the true kingdom of God not this in temples of stone and wood. It takes a wood and the sides. It raises to a stone and the sides.

You need to see Online the GM´s to know that they work. I prefer that they work without seeing them, so that every east day game is better.

If you need see some gms for know they are working on game... you can go visit in they House.

I got flamed for the rumor on the forums and players spammed me on LP all the time asking for things I can't do for them. Mainly adrenaline and Espada though. I don't know if members of my guild believed it or not. I also passed leadership of my guild to another member. I don't think anyone has explicitly said that my guild was corrupt or got an unfair advantage in the game though (unless it was all said behind my back).

for starters, shayne and LP lets not turn this into another flame war like the last thread that got locked.

secondly i think players are over analyzing this issue, i understand people are apprehensive because no one wants this server to go corrupt like previouse. but lets put things into perspective.

NewRaja...possibly the bane of my gaming existance (along with ConquerOnline) THAT was corrupt, hackers everywhere no one getting banned because of bad GM team and all sorts of corruption going on.

This Server....hasnt even been up a full week yet. so far GM's are showing that they will punish people for breaking rules, they are making many changes to improve the game and make it different to previouse servers for ALL of our enjoyment. they are working and doing things, no they may not be the most communative team in the world, but i am sure that once all the major bug issues we are having thin out they will have more time to talk to us. like many have said they have personal lives and that should be there prioraty. outside of that time i would prefer them workin on scripts and coding and bugs rather than hangin in town going "yo, so hows we all doing?"

as for the issue of GM's in guild's they should be able to play the game, as many have all ready said. they have friends in-game, yea they should try n keep themselves hidden but thats hard if you have known sumone for the last 3-5 years is it not? i personally am in ZT with a GM and am not a friend of that person (i mean this as in known them a while) we speak in guild we get on, sumtimes we lvl. at no point has this perosn told me any "secret information" or any shit like that.

my overall point incase you couldnt be arsed to read all that is. CHILL OUT FFS giv sum time if in 3-8 weeks or whatever corruption becomes evident then yea make a fuss untill sumthing solid happens (which from what i have seen has not) lets just enjoy the game and the overall good server that these GM's are providing thus far

end rant

P.S. this is not in direct response to OP it is my opinion and a response to the general opinions of what i have read on forums.
