Game slows down after a while

Postby Kamos » Mon Feb 15, 2010 4:27 pm

Whenever I start playing all is well and the game runs properly @ max 10% CPU power.
After like 20 minutes, the game start to 'lag', but the lag is not caused by a bad internet connection, but by the computer not being able to keep up: CPU sometimes goes to 100% so I get a low frame rate.
I was wondering if someone else has the same problem.

I use windows 7, 32-bit. With 2.66 GHz dual core intel E6750, nvidia 7600 GS, 2GB ram.
Tried full screen, windowed mode, 16-bit and 32-bit, audio on/off, but the problem remains.

It happens to me too, just randomly slows down for a while, framerate goes down. Only for a while tho. happens on both my pc and laptop. Using vista and windows 7.

I used to have the problem in windowed mode because of dualscreen, if I disconnectd one of two screens it did not happen ;)

Interesting, cause I am indeed using dual screen. I'll try using one.

And yes, it's only DR that's using 100% CPU. (50% on a dual core machine)

Also it tends to happen more in crowded screens (lots of people/monsters and stuff going on like magic). Such a scene runs smoothly when I've just started the game, but over time as I train or just hangout at the town square it gets worse.

I'll report back on using one screen.

I just used one screen, full screen, for 40minutes and all went well, good frame rates.

im pretty sure it has to do with the cpu, i am taking a completely educated guess when i say the following: when CPU goes up it doesn't go back down unless you restart your client or something, so the more things you experience, the more that loads, (such as bull and other mounts and lasers) they stay loaded, thats why you dont lag again when you see them again other than the first time, and to stay loaded, it take more CPU, but with high CPU your DR starts to slow down, so when you are in a highly populated place, it might be because DR is loading all of those effects and graphics.

(Y) this educated guess sounds right to me
