Everyone prepares for an "expected" gamble discount. I personally think it's time to do something new. I guess we will see the details today...
It's like salary bonus you get every year... At some point you expect it and don't want to "work" for it. Then you get mad because you didn't get the same bonus as last year.

People can prepare for LMS events by leveling and making rares.
People can prepare for toy hunting event by making speed rares.
People can prepare for double exp event by selling items for RE to use on pills.
...and the list goes on.
So... why is preparing suddenly a bad thing? The players who 'prepare' are the loyal players who stuck with this server throughout the year. They can prepare because they know what happened a year ago. Is this how loyal players should be treated? Perhaps you can enlighten me

I didn't say it was a bad thing. If GM comes in here and says no to gamble discount, then you would be mad right? All I'm saying is, don't always EXPECT something just because it happened a year ago. Judging by the GM announcement post, we will see the extra details today. Maybe that will include a gambling discount

Woops. That was wrong to assume on my part. What i meant was, I just think that if GMs come up with a new event it should be added as an additional event instead of replacing traditional ones.
I also think player expectations is what keeps a lot of them still playing. It gives them something to look forward to and stick with the server through it's rough times. Expectations can range from anything like server updates, buffs to rates, events (gambling discount), etc. If the GMs really didn't want to have another gamble discount then they should have let players knows 11 months ago instead of wrongfully leading them on. It's a Holiday event so of course players will be expecting it, and rightfully so. Just like the jack'o lantern Halloween event.
So far all of this year's Christmas events are the exact same as last year's and I see no complaints
