Re: Add your perception on how the GM team is doing

First off, I would like to apologize to the players and also to the other GMs for the way I disapeared on everyone. Personally, there are not enough hours in the day to distribute to every thing I enjoy in life and sometimes I have to chose between one or the other. Dragon Raja has always something I have enjoyed since the year 2002 when I was first introduced to the game. Getting older is making leisure time hours smaller and smaller.

Reading the topics on the forums about how disorganized the official launch was, really made me feel guilty. I was brought into the GM team just for that reason, to keep things organized, and to communicate with the players. Positive, constructive, respectful topics such as Silencer has started here is how the community should be. Unfortunately, there will always be some negavtive comments, but those tend to be the ones I like to ignore. When I read negative comments on the forums about something not getting done or something postponed because of problems, I usually get upset. People need to realize, we are not getting paid for any of this and we would like to enjoy time off to play the game as well. We are spending time to keep a game going we have all come to love. When the community is only bickering about every little thing, we all feel discouraged and we start to lose motivation to continue on. Why should we have to go through that?

Anyway, thank you for this encouraging topic. It has giving me motivation to return with what I was brought into the GM team for. Please be patient.

You might as well start getting paid for it if Mistralis has the rights to DR, there's nothing that stops you from making a profit. NR obviously was able to make a lot of money from DR, enough to get funds to buy Counter Strike and Metin 2 at least. If it's not a private server, GMs shouldn't have the "we are volunteers" excuse.

On the other hand you CAN say that your work hours are from 8am to 5pm. Anything outside of those time frames you should not be contacted for GM work and it's your time off. Of course, have different GMs on different shifts so that there's always a GM on duty 24/7.

not all GMs work on scripting and code. There's no "contact us" or support system in place yet... so why can't the non-coding GMs get feedback in game?

 Sorry for being inactive for the moment peeps. At the present, I'm just doing "behind the scenes" work such as helping SignPainter code things (Takes excruciating amounts of time and very tedious work). We've had a rough start so after things settle down a bit I'll be back doing my other jobs, like hosting events.

I also suppose many people would like to wonder about how corruption is handled. GM's like me and Psipress don't have the authority to create items or otherwise anything similar. If we need to do so, we have to request permission from SignPainter.

Hope you're all enjoying the game ^o^

Actually Newraja didn't have much GMs. Not as much as this anyways. Just having to let go 1 GM just showed their inability to maintain a team. I wouldnt even be surprised if they had to get more leverage to buy the rights for other games.

Anyway, my perception for current GM team is that they're being too open with players actually. We have seriously too many retards (ops used the r word) who are either always demanding ridiculous information that should be only available to the team, without even the word please (o my gawd) and then we have people who believe their suggestions are the fking word of god and are so butthurt when GM's don't do it. Other than that, as long as they get through this disorganized start I'm ok.

Thank you Psipress and Tempest for your encouraging posts. I just wanted to let you know a few minutes from your coding to be a little active in the community will take you a long way to solidify the community. The vast majority of people here have been through 2-4 servers at least and it only takes a small incident to break the community apart. I know you guys have been doing a great job and I hope this doesn't take away from that. But constructive criticisms (apart from negative ones) are the best way to improve. I hope other players will realize that there's nothing wrong with constructive criticisms. Far too often players give too much leeway to GMs because they don't want to criticize them since they are giving up their free time to maintain a server. Then when shit really hits the fan, they start flaming without any suggestions whatsoever. Players need to realize we need to avoid abusive language from constructive criticisms. GMs are adults I assume so I'm sure they appreciate constructive criticisms.

If you don't have enough time to even be active on the forums, never mind behind the scenes until someone complains then maybe being a GM isn't a right position for you. Starting an "Official" server needs a staff that has drive and passion not someone who is barely here all the time.

GMPsipress wrote:

Those are the ones you shouldn't be ignoring. Those are the ones you should be trying to improve. You don't need "Yes men" you need people to tell you how it is. That is done through comments negative and positive.

You're an "Official" server now, that kind of mentality doesn't fly anymore. You are getting paid. It isn't through legal loop holes like donations. If you are hardly making any money atm then maybe you should get the mall up and running? If you are only still making enough to maintain the server start advertising to get more players. Painter is doing a good job coding things (even if they were at the last minute and not in beta), but if you can't accomplish those other objectives it's all for naught. There are lots of way to make money, you just have to want to do it and spend the extra you get to do it.

As for playing, every single server who had staff playing has lead to its downfall. It might start out leaking information, like where to find all the bosses who drop sards, to locating all the quests and branch off from there. Also, since you are privy to that information it right off the bat gives you an unfair advantage especially if you are in a popular guild. People will play with you and find out the information they were supposed to find out on their own.

My big suggestion would be to play less and work on server more. If not through coding then through public relations, advertisement, and things of this nature.

Why should GMs respond to negative comments? There's a difference between negative comments and constructive criticisms. Negative comments aren't needed to find problems because there are people who are mature enough to point out problems without yelling and screaming and personally attacking the GMs. Constructive criticisms are not "yes men."
