yeah but in a war or something when there's a lot of players on the screen, you're not always looking just at the wiz or priest.

Ressing isn't an important example but what about spells like firebird, fw, cf that all begin the same?

Or instead of save our child just record yourself say ress, or ld, or ss etc then save as .wav (Y) Not like they can prove you do it unless they somehow able to access your computer. The other stuff they said no to they can tell if you do it.

If they can check any of the 3, then they can check all 3. Some games have antihack systems that check the sizes of game files on startup of the game to see if anything is edited. I don't know how DRG does it but it's a possibility.

my argument is that either all 3 should be legal or all 3 should be illegal and that exceptions should not be made.

There are hackers who can edit chars so that it looks bigger and have longer range. I see no rules about client editing/file editing in the game rules.
i. Hacks. The use of hacks is strictly prohibited. Any players caught using any 3rd party program for the purpose of gaining an unfair advantage over players will be punished. All hackers will be permanently banned.

opening en_lang doesn't require a 3rd party program. The GMs say it's illegal but it's not an official rule. I would like GMs to make specific references to this in the rules.

Agreed. Should be illegal and in the rules. And there should preferably also be a mechanism (encrypt files or hash-check) that prevents players playing with edited files.
But this will be yet more work. So might not get done for a while. So perhaps it's best to remove this thread or you might give players ideas.

players who know how to do it, already do pretty much. This will hopefully only make other players aware of such things existing so they can keep an eye out for players playing with edited files and report them.

How do you know so much about editing character files and what effect it has on them? I have a big ass monitor and high ress and my character is pretty dang big on my screen but ti has the same range as any other.

It's when you edit the size of you prize in relation to other things in the game. I'm not really sure how it works exactly and I know about it because it was used a lot at the end of NR...
